Phoenix, AZ, October 6, 2026 — The Wornall Majors House Museums have introduced a new online database designed to assist individuals in researching their ancestral history, with a particular focus on Black families in Jackson County, Missouri. This initiative aims to make historical legal documents more accessible by digitizing and summarizing them.

The project seeks to provide a valuable resource for those looking to trace their lineage and uncover details about enslaved ancestors. By digitizing and summarizing complex legal records, the museums hope to simplify the research process for individuals and families.

The database focuses on historical legal documents, which often contain critical information for genealogical research. These documents can shed light on enslaved individuals, their relationships, and their lives within the context of historical legal frameworks. The Wornall Majors House Museums stated that the goal is to help people connect with their past and reconstruct lost family histories.

Specific details regarding the timeline of the database’s development or the total number of documents digitized were not immediately available. Further information on how to access the database and its specific functionalities is expected to be released by the Wornall Majors House Museums.

This effort represents a significant step in making historical records more accessible and usable for genealogical research, particularly for descendants of enslaved people who may face unique challenges in tracing their ancestry due to historical record-keeping practices.
