Phoenix, AZ, October 23, 2026 —
Severe storms triggered flash flooding across northern and eastern Arizona, displacing dozens of families in tribal communities and prompting emergency actions in several locations, according to the available report.
The Hopi Tribe declared an emergency in Moenkopi. In Dennehotso, on the Navajo Nation, rescues were conducted. Evacuations also took place in Cibecue, on the White Mountain Apache Reservation.
The reported actions varied by community: an emergency declaration in Moenkopi, rescues in Dennehotso and evacuations in Cibecue. The account does not specify how many people were rescued or evacuated, where displaced families went, or whether the three communities experienced the same level of flooding.
The report describes the flooding as devastating and says dozens of families were displaced. It does not provide a specific number of households, details about injuries or damage, or information about whether roads, homes or other infrastructure were affected. The storms’ timing and duration are also not stated.
No further details were provided about the emergency declaration, including its duration or the services made available to residents. The available information also does not identify which agencies carried out the rescues and evacuations or whether additional response measures followed.
The reported flooding affected communities on the Hopi, Navajo and White Mountain Apache reservations. Additional information would be needed to establish the full extent of the impacts and the status of displaced families.
